About the Teacher
This will be my seventh year as a Special Education teacher. Before teaching, I managed Target stores in the Indiana market for seven years before obtaining my Masters in Early Childhood Special Education. I love music and singing! I love to travel, but I didn't get to travel too much this summer because I worked with teenagers and adults with special needs at the Chicago Park district, which was so much fun! Academics
As your child’s special education teacher, I will be working hard to help him/her make significant academic progress in a safe, structured, and positive environment. I will maintain regular communication with the general education teachers to ensure that my students are being exposed to the general education curriculum. I plan to use the BASS assessment and EasyCBM assessments to obtain academic benchmark and progress monitoring data. In addition, I use the Brigance Assessment to capture annual curriculum strengths and needs. This year, our diverse learners will be challenged at their individual academic levels. I will keep you informed with regards to your child’s academic and social emotional progress. |
Homework
I strongly believe that parents and teachers must work as a team to ensure that the children get the most they can out of each school year. Your involvement plays a vital role in your child’s academic success. After the first week of school, Students will be given weekly homework packets, so that families can plan and pace the homework for their children throughout the week. Please make sure your child completes his/her weekly homework packets and 2 weekly readings by Friday of each week (Thursdays for short weeks). The students will be given a homework binder for their homework and it will have additional practice skills that they can practice along with their packets (i.e. numbers, letter sounds, sight words, & basic skills). |
Communication
This year, the entire school will be using ClassDoJo to award and address behaviors. ClassDojo connects teachers with students and parents to build amazing classroom communities. Teachers and families can view notes and communicate daily through this point system. Students will also earn points to be used in our school store. Bi-weekly, I will send home classroom newsletter that will include Resources, Tips, Bi-Weekly Spelling Words, Academic focuses, the school calendar, etc. My goal is to create and foster a safe learning environment for your child. I take pride in watching your child learn and grow. We are going to have a great year! |
